The 5 Steps of a Proper Visit

Follow in sequence for a complete and respectful ritual

01

Set Your Intention

Before entering, pause outside the gate. Breathe deeply and state your intention clearly in your mind. Be specific about what you seek — vague wishes yield vague results.

02

Prepare Your Offerings

Gather the correct offerings for the deity or Buddha image at this specific site. Incense, candles, and flowers each carry distinct symbolic meaning that strengthens your request.

03

Worship in Sequence

Follow the correct order of worship spots within the temple — typically beginning with the main ordination hall before moving to secondary shrines and sacred trees.

04

Recite the Prayer

Use the prayer script provided. Read slowly and with complete focus. Sincerity in your voice holds more power than perfect pronunciation.

05

Seal Your Intention

After all offerings, stand or kneel in silence for 1–3 minutes. Visualise your intention and dedicate merit to all beings before departing with a calm mind.

Taboo Check

Taboo Check

Respect invites the blessing — know what to avoid

Dress Modestly

Cover shoulders and knees. Many temples will decline entry to those dressed inappropriately. Carry a scarf.

Feet Away from Sacred Images

Never sit with feet pointed toward a Buddha image or deity. This is considered deeply disrespectful.

No Photography at Certain Shrines

Always look for posted signs. Some images are considered too sacred for photography — honour this.

Quiet Voices Inside

Loud conversation disrupts the sacred atmosphere for others. Speak softly or remain in silence.

Restricted Entry on Certain Days

Some shrines restrict entry for women on specific ceremonial days. Check posted notices before entering.
